For Volunteers Week 2021 (1 – 7 June), Ulster Rugby will be showcasing some of our outstanding rugby volunteers and highlighting the great work carried out by these individuals across the province.
Volunteer Role: Ulster Rugby’s Young Person’s Advisory Group (YPAG)
What do you do?
“This advisory group is made up of young players and volunteers from all aspects of rugby and we meet up at least 4 times per year to discuss different topics and issues that affect young people involved in rugby, with a view to improving the growth of youth domestic rugby in Ulster. As volunteers, we are asked about our experience and knowledge around the youth game, and discuss ideas on how we can help improve the game from a youth perspective”.
Why did you get involved in volunteering?
“I wanted to become a volunteer, because I am passionate about rugby, I have been involved in rugby since I was six years old. I have played for both my school and club and I am currently involved in the Ulster Under-18 pathway programme. I wanted to be part of the conversation as I felt I have something to offer by being involved I could improve the sport for young people in the future”.
What do you most enjoy about volunteering?
“I love being able to engage with the other young people in this group. I enjoy hearing their views and opinions and being part of a discussion and share ideas that could bring about positive change for other young people like myself who are involved in rugby”.
