On Thursday 16th June Ulster Rugby hosted a group of careers and sports teachers from the West Belfast Area Learning Community.
The group were treated to a guided tour of Kingspan Stadium before assembling in The Nevin Spence Centre to participate in a number of workshops focused on the benefits of volunteerism in sport in relation to employability, which were delivered by Ulster Rugby and Ulster GAA staff members.
After lunch, the group reconvened and took part in a question and answer session on additional potential careers in the sports industry such as sports journalism, performance analysis and medical careers, which were delivered by professionals in each of the fields.
The schools involved in today’s event were St Louise’s Comprehensive College, Corpus Christi College, St Rose’s Dominican College, Belfast Hospital School, De La Salle College, St Mary’s CBGS and Colaiste Feirste. Each of those involved took away an enhanced knowledge of how getting involved in sports volunteering can benefit the young people they work with and offer potential employment opportunities.
