Instonians host Clogher Valley at Shaw's Bridge on Saturday the 26th of March at 2:30pm, with the game's winner set to confirm themselves as the overall winners of the Kukri Ulster Rugby Championship Division 1.
Table-topping Instonians hold a slender one point advantage, having won 16 games and seen one result declared as a draw after December's clash with CIYMS was affected by Covid-19.
Clogher Valley sit in 2nd place, having also won 16 games this season. Their one defeat came at the hands of Instonians in the reverse fixture back in October, which they won 27-26.
Both clubs have enjoyed sensational free-scoring form, and have regularly picked up bonus point wins which have set them far ahead of the chasing pack, led by Ballyclare in third place with 62 points.
The winner of this game will secure the Championship Division 1 title, and in doing so will confirm their place in the Round Robin play-off for promotion to the All-Ireland League.
They'll go on to play the winner of the Munster Championship in a semi-final in Navan on the 2nd of April. The winner of this game will then face the team that comes out on top of the clash between the champions of Connacht and Leinster, with the overall winner of the final securing their place in Division 2C, replacing the team that loses the relegation play-off.
Instonians Captain Alan Whiten:
"We are really looking forward to the game. It's not normal for the league to be decided in the last game of the season. It promises to be a good match with the two best Junior teams in Ulster going head to head."
Instonians Backs Coach Louis Ludik:
"It has been a pleasure working with this group of players. Interestingly, this squad has evolved over the season and going into this game we have 4 changes, both positionally and playing, in the pack and 6 in the backline, from the team that played Clogher earlier in the season. Forecast is good and this will suit both teams' style of play. It will be a hotly contested game in front of a large crowd."
Clogher Valley Coach Stephen Bothwell:
“I want the team to focus on playing rugby and being the best we can be. If we come out 2nd place on Sat, then so be it, as long as we perform to the best of our ability.”
Clogher Valley Captain Paul Armstrong:
“Our performance has been improving each week. We were slow starters before Christmas and we allowed teams to get into their rhythm, before coming strong towards the end of the game, we have rectified that now, and are scoring in the first 10 minutes of most games. The team's fitness is good and we normally come good in the last quarter, so we are looking forward to playing Instonians who also score many of their points towards the end of the match."
