Last Sunday saw round 3 of the Women's Ulster Qualifying League, with Carrick and Cavan securing wins.

Current champions Carrick entertained last season's league final rivals and current league toppers, Ballymoney, at home.

The hosts kicked off a stop/start half, with neither side dominating for long. Ballymoney opened the scoring with an unconverted try from centre Helen Murphy following an excellent maul from her forwards.

Spurred on by this score, Carrick forced Ballymoney into their own 22, with scrumhalf Lydine Wilson finding the line and centre Arlene Devine converting.

On the cusp of half time, Ballymoney attacked relentlessly until captain Libby Parke breached the Carrick defence a 7-12 half time lead.

The second half resumed with both teams determined to out-play the other. However Carrick came out stronger than in the first half and dominated much of the possession, with the forwards playing a more prevalent role than in the previous half. Carrick dominated the majority of the possession and centre Hilary Cawood scored. Devone was successful with a second conversion to bring the score to 14-12.

Superb home defence stemmed the flow of Ballymoney and they were rewarded when Wilson raced in for an impressive score from the half way line, her second of the match. A missed conversion meant the score was 19-12 to a relieved Carrick side.

Cavan travelled to Letterkenny/Finn Valley where the newly combined home side were defeated by 0-42, seeing the visitors off to a great start in their first league match. Tries came courtesy of Cathy King, Brigid Reynolds (2), Anna Coyle, Shauna Brady and Deirdre O' Reilly (2).

Next weekend could see major changes in the current standings, with an undefeated Carrick side travelling to Cavan, in a vital clash which could see them reclaim the top league position. However coming off the back of a 42-0 victory, Cavan will undoubtedly not make it an easy match.

Letterkenny/Finn Valley travel to Ballyshannon for a match which could potentially take them off the bottom spot, with both teams on one point each; Ballyshannon having a record of played one, lost one.
