Youth Girls Regional Development Squad Screening Session

Ulster Rugby is hosting a screening for a Girls' Youth Regional Development Squad on Sunday 24th September at Portadown RFC from 10am-1pm.

The screening is open to all girls born from 2000 – 2003 as they will form the basis of the Ulster U18 girls squad over the next few years.

While rugby playing-experience is preferable, we are keen for girls of any athletic background to participate in the day and get a taste of what rugby is all about. We would expect newcomers to commit to their local Club if selected as part of the Development Squad.

Whether your experience is in athletics, netball, hockey, gaelic games, weight-lifting or any other sporting pursuit, we encourage you to give it your best and see if you are up to the challenge!

The timings of the screening have been organised to allow players and parents time to get down to Virginia RFC afterwards to support the Ulster U18 girls squad who start the defence of their Interprovincial Title with a 3pm kick off against Connacht.  We would encourage as many people as possible to get down to Virginia to cheer the girls on as one day it could be you or your daughter playing…you never know!!

If you would like to attend the screening or require further information, please email Neal.Johnston@Ulsterrugby.com or contact Neal on 0044 7767 115 764.

The following information will be required for registration and should be received by Neal no later than 9am Wednesday 20th September:
  • Player name
  • Player DOB
  • Player Club (if applicable)
  • Parental email
  • Parental contact number
Below is some additional important information regarding the Development Squad:

What?/Why?:
The aim of the Development Squad is to provide an environment where the most promising female youth players can challenge each other to collectively improve their basic skills and game understanding.  This will provide girls an opportunity to maximise their potential to move along the player development pathway.

Who?:
The screening session is open to all players born in 2000, 2001, 2002 and 2003.  Those players who are selected for the Development Squad will then be invited to attend a series of sessions between October and Christmas.  Sessions will not be mandatory but full-attendance would be encouraged.
The Development Squad will run a rotating-door policy and coaches will attend blitzes and youth games to observe players and identify new talent who may be invited into the squad at any stage.
Players in this season’s Ulster U18 Girls Squad will automatically revert to the Development Squad after the Interprovincial Series is complete.

When?/Where?:
Development Squad sessions will take place on an East and West basis on a series of Friday nights between October and Christmas.  Players will be directed to their most local training site.  Dates and venues will be confirmed once the Club youth leagues have been finalised by the Branch Youth Committee.  The plan is to deliver 6 sessions before Christmas.
