Ulster team named for Glasgow Warriors Away Clash

Matty Devine
Head Coach, Richie Murphy, has named his Ulster side to face Glasgow Warriors on Saturday night at Scotstoun Stadium in Round 2 of the BKT United Rugby Championship. (KO: 5.30pm)

Ireland internationals Tom Stewart, Cormac Izuchukwu, Bryn Ward and Jacob Stockdale are all back in the starting line-up, while Nathan Doak is among the replacements.

Stockdale marks a special milestone, making his 150th Ulster appearance at full-back.

New signings Keynan Knox, Matthew Devine and Chay Mullins make their first Ulster starts.

There are two changes to the front row this week, with hooker Tom Stewart captaining the XV, and new signing Keynan Knox making his first Ulster start at tighthead prop. Eric O’Sullivan starts at loosehead prop.

Izuchukwu makes his first appearance of the season in the second row, joining Zimbabwean lock Eli Snyman.

In the back row, Year 3 Academy forward James McKillop gets the nod at blindside flanker, with Round 1’s Player of the Match, David McCann, starting on the openside.

After making his senior Ireland debut against Japan in the summer, Bryn Ward makes his first appearance of the new campaign for his province at number eight.

New scrum-half Matthew Devine is in line for his first Ulster start, after an eye-catching performance from the bench last week. He joins Jack Murphy at ten.

There is one change in the midfield, as versatile back, Ethan McIlroy, starts at outside centre. New signing Jamie Benson continues at inside centre.

Following Michael Lowry and Robert Baloucoune’s injuries last week, there are changes to the back three this week.

Two former Ireland Sevens teammates start on either wing, as Zac Ward makes his first start of the season on the left wing, and former Connacht wing Chay Mullins makes his Ulster debut on the right, with Stockdale at full-back.

Murphy names a strong bench, with a 6:2 split, that is boosted by the return of Nathan Doak and South African number eight, Juarno Augustus.

Henry Walker, Tom McAllister, Eduardo Bello, Ben Donnell, James McNabney and Augustus are the forward replacements, while Doak and Jake Flannery are the backline options.
