The Opposition
Franco Smith's Warriors side got off to a strong start to the new season, with a gritty 26-20 away victory against Munster at Thomond Park.
The result was made more impressive after they found themselves ten points down at half-time against the Irish province.
This weekend sees the Scottish side return to Scotstoun Stadium for their first home match of the new campaign, as they look to continue a formidable home record.
The Warriors lost just once at home in all competitions last season, losing 19-22 against Toulon in the Champions Cup Quarter-Final.
Their only defeat in the last five URC matches was a dramatic 21-22 loss against Vodacom Bulls in the URC Semi-Final.
The 2023-24 URC Champions have a very well balanced team, with plenty of international experience through their forwards and backs.
Players To Watch
Matt Fagerson
Capped 66 times for the Scottish National side, Matt Fagerson has developed into one of Glasgow Warriors’ established back-row forwards.
The powerful forward is comfortable across the back row positions and combines physicality, work rate and athleticism, making him a presence in both attack and defence.
He played a key role in Glasgow’s 2023/24 United Rugby Championship title success, producing a Player of the Match performance in the Grand Final against the Vodacom Bulls.
Stafford McDowall
Another Scottish international player, Stafford McDowell is an important backline player for Glasgow and the national side.
McDowall is a strong ball carrier who gets his team over the gain line, while his size and defensive technique make him a formidable presence in the midfield.
Over the past few seasons, he has shown a strong partnership with Scotland captain, Sione Tuipulotu, in the midfield positions.
With his combination of physicality and reliability on both sides of the ball, McDowall has become an important figure in the Warriors midfield and a leader in the team.
Jamie Dobie
The 25-year-old back marked his 100th Glasgow Warriors appearance with a try against Munster.
A versatile back who can play on the wing and at scrum-half, Dobie is a dangerous threat for his side.
Dobie has been capped 22 times for the national side, and continues to impress for both club and country.
