£24,000 Raised For Mencap So Far This Season

Ulster Rugby supporters have raised an incredible £24,000 for Mencap's Big Step Forward Appeal so far this season. Mencap became the team’s Official Charity Partner of the Year in September and since then Ulster Rugby has held numerous fundraising events for the learning disability charity.

As part of our fundraising efforts, an Ulster Rugby staff team ran the Belfast City Marathon on Monday 4th May. We would like to thank all of those people who kindly donated and supported the team who raised £3,048 and completed the marathon relay in 3 hours 49 minutes.

Everyone who donated to the marathon team on their dedicated Just Giving page were entered into a random draw to win an Ulster Rugby jersey signed by World Number 1 golfer and keen Ulster fan, Rory McIlroy. Vanessa Elder, Mencap's Regional Fundraising Manager chose the staff at Bavarian BMW out of a hat and the shirt was presented to Keith Craig (pictured above) on their behalf.

The total amount raised this season will go to Mencap's Big Step Forward Appeal, which aims to reach at least £1.7m locally to build, equip and run its new Children and Families’ centre in Newtownbreda which will open in early 2016.

The final fundraising event for Mencap in the 2014/15 calendar is the Ulster Rugby Family Open Day on Friday 31st July between 3-6pm.

Activities include rugby skills sessions, zorbing, climbing wall, crafts, Teddy Hospital, inflatables, BBQ and much more. Tickets are priced at £5 for adults and £3 for children. Kids under five years of age will gain free entry on the day. All proceeds from this event will go towards the Big Step Forward Appeal.
