5th Special Needs Summer Camp another Great Success

Ulster Rugby hosted the 5th Special Needs Summer Camp, sponsored by Centra, at Newforge Country Club from the 1st-3rd August.

The 3 day camp brought some players who were trying rugby for the first time together with players from Portadown Panthers, Ballymena Bears, Ballyclare Hares and Newforge Taggers. A lot of fun, friendship and developing skills were the objectives of the camp.

Players aged between 8 and 26 practiced their skills and developed fitness through fun games and drills with each day finishing with the Ulster Rugby Summer Camp tradition; a match.

The highlight of the week was a visit from Ulster player Chris Henry who is not only Patron of Newforge Taggers but a very keen supporter of Specials Needs Tag Rugby. Chris answered some very interesting questions such as who is favourite player is and who was the biggest inspiration to him.

Chris’ visit coincided with James Dorman’s (Ballyclare Hares) 16th birthday and he joined players, volunteers and coaches joined in wishing James a Happy Birthday.

There are 9 clubs in Ulster who have Sections for those with Learning Difficulties. If you would like further information on Special Needs Tag Rugby contact Barry Willis on (028) 9049 3222.
