Ballyclare RFC Mini Rugby Festival this weekend

Around 1,400 young rugby players will attend Ballyclare RFC Mini Rugby's popular annual festival this year.

Over 100 teams of boys and girls from more than 20 different rugby clubs have registered to take part in the event on Saturday 14th April.

Clubs from across Ulster and beyond will compete in matches at the Cloughan ground in Ballyclare.

The players range in age from Primary 3 up to Year 8. The youngest players will start off the play on the day with the older players taking to the pitches in the afternoon.

Entertainment available to the players, their families and supporters in between matches includes face painting, climbing towers, inflatables & much more. Hot and cold refreshments will also be available.

Ballyclare RFC Mini Rugby convenor Iain Luke said: “We are delighted to host a festival which is so hugely popular and is attended by clubs right across Ireland. As with previous years, the day will be filled with rugby and great fun.

“We would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who has worked so hard behind the scenes to organise the event and also a big thank you to all of our sponsors who provide such valued support. We are looking forward to a fantastic day.”

Tim Woodside, managing director of principal sponsor The Woodside Group, said: “The Woodside Group is very proud to be the principal sponsor for Ballyclare Mini Rugby’s annual festival this year.

"We are delighted to be involved in such a well organised event. The festival successfully reinforces the importance of rugby and sport in the community from players to spectators and reaches out to a wide audience of all ages.”

The festival marks the end of a great year for rugby in Ballyclare. Ballyclare RFC 1st XV triumphed in the Towns Cup, Ballyclare High School won the Subsidiary Shield and Ballyclare Secondary School won the U16 Shield. A huge number of the players involved in these successes played Mini Rugby at Ballyclare RFC.
