Ballyclare Rfc Prepares For Annual Mini Rugby Festival

Around 1,500 young rugby players will attend Ballyclare RFC Mini Rugby’s popular annual festival this year, as over 100 teams of boys and girls from more than 20 different rugby clubs have registered to take part in the event on Saturday 25th April.

Clubs from right across Ulster will compete in matches at the Cloughan ground in Ballyclare, alongside teams from Dublin, Limerick and Selkirk in Scotland.

The players range in age from Primary 3 up to Year 8, with the youngest players starting off the play on the day and the older players taking to the pitches in the afternoon.

In between matches, entertainment available to the players, their families and supporters includes wall climbing, hamster balls, bouncy castles, food stalls and many other attractions.

Ballyclare RFC Mini Rugby convenor Tommy Scott said: “We are delighted to host a festival which is so hugely popular and is attended by clubs right across Ireland. As with previous years, the day will be filled with rugby and great fun.

“We would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who has worked so hard behind the scenes to organise the event and also a big thank you to all of our sponsors who provide such valued support. We are looking forward to a fantastic day.”

Tim Woodside, Managing Director of principal sponsor, The Woodside Group, said: “We are delighted to be involved in such a well organised event. The festival successfully reinforces the importance of rugby and sport in the community and reaches out to a wide audience of all ages.”

The festival marks the end of a great year for Ballyclare Mini Rugby after they were recently named as winners of the Junior Team of the Year category at the Newtownabbey Borough Council Sports Awards.
