Cavan National Schools take part in Tag Rugby Day

Swellan Park hosted a National Schools Tag Rugby Day on Friday 9 June, with 128 players and 12 teachers in attendance.

Three schools took part on the day, namely Farnham National School, Killygarry National School and St Felims National School.

Played in lovely summer weather, the standard of play, by the mainly beginner players, matched the conditions.

Over the past five weeks, two coaches from County Cavan RFC have been delivering coaching sessions in each of the schools, and it was clear to see the evidence of good coaching in the performances.

The club would like to thank the schools' principals and teachers for supporting the event, and also acknowledge funding from Ulster Rugby and support from regional staff Darren McGuigan and Zoe Templeton. They would also like to thank coaches Andrew Vickerman and Salesi T'upilatu, as well as all the volunteer referees and helpers on the day.

County Cavan Rugby Club hope to have schools coaching on a regular basis from September onwards.
