Historically, a hugely successful part of the event has been the women's section, which will take place on Sunday 4th May. In previous years this event has attracted teams from England, Scotland and Wales, as well as sides from across Ireland. The tournament has previously only been won by Cooke and Queen's University, so new competition is always welcome.
This year, in line with the Ulster Branch Women's Committee, the matches will be 7 a side rather than the normal 10 a side competition for the women's tournaments. As always, Abbey Insurance will sponsor this tournament, with £1500 in prize money up for grabs. The entry fee for this will remain at £60 per team.
In addition there are plans to host a development tournament aimed at teams who are less experienced, with the aim of including those with less match experience. This tournament will have no prize money, with the entry fee at £30 per team.
?Squads for both competitions will be limited to a maximum of 12 players and upon the team being registered at the start of the tournament players will not be able to interchange amongst squads.
It’s a well known fact that Sevens is not just about the rugby, there will be four bars in operation during the day, along with around 800 patrons in the marquee at night, where there will be live music from Rumours on Saturday night and The Untouchables on Sunday night. Teams are encouraged to soak up the atmosphere and make it a night as well as a day, as it’s always an excellent end to the season.
To avoid disappointment, teams should be entered as soon as possible at www.carricksevens.co.uk where you can use the Paypal facility or print an entry form.
