Ulster legend, Chris Henry has been awarded a testimonial season for his service to Ulster and Irish rugby.Â
The launch was held at the Titanic Hotel Belfast on Thursday 28th June with players, loyal fans and local businesses joining together to celebrate his distinguished career and the service Chris has given to both Ulster and Ireland.
The plans for the year were outlined, with the first event kicking off at Kingspan Stadium as Ulster take on Gloucester in a pre-season friendly on Saturday 18th August. Other highlights across the year will include a Testimonial dinner at Belfast City Hall, Golf Day, Comedy Night and a Trek with Andrew Trimble and Tommy Bowe to Mount Toubkal, Morocco.
Chris said, “I am delighted to be launching my testimonial surrounded by such great support and I am really excited for all the events planned in the year ahead. I have chosen to raise funds for NI Chest Heart & Stroke as they are a charity very close to my heart since I suffered a mini stroke back in 2014.”
Sinead Lynch, Corporate Partnerships Manager, NI Chest Heart & Stroke added, “Chris has been a great ambassador for our charity over recent years, so we are delighted to be a part of this celebration and testimonial year. We will be offering a range of bespoke sponsorship opportunities at all the events.
“It is also a great opportunity for us to raise awareness of signs and symptoms of these conditions as men are notorious for ignoring their health, but Chris’ experience of mini-stroke illustrates the importance of listening to your body and taking action if something is not right.”
BACKGROUND
Chris Henry has been awarded a testimonial season for his service to Ulster and Irish rugby for the 2018/2019 season. The aim of the year is to celebrate his 11 years of service to both Ulster and Ireland with his friends, family and loyal Ulster fans.
It is to also an opportunity to raise money for Northern Ireland Chest Heart and Stroke, a charity that is very close to Chris. Chris suffered a mini stroke in 2014 on the morning he was due to play a test match against South Africa. He returned to play just four months later and was selected for the 2015 Rugby World Cup.
