Ciyms Return Successful From Tigers Challenge Tour

CIYMS P7s have just returned from their tour to Minehead, bringing home with them the prestigious Tigers Challenge Trophy for the U11 age group.

The tour was preceded with a launch night, when Ulster Rugby Chief Executive, Shane Logan, addressed the boys, inspiring them as the only team representing Ulster Rugby in any competition that weekend. This was followed by the presentation of the tour kit by Ulster scrumhalf, Paul Marshall.

The tour party comprised 27 boys and 25 parents which enabled CIYMS to enter two teams into the 16-team tournament against English and Welsh opposition.

The boys rose to the challenge of tournament rugby for the first time and both teams progressed strongly through the group stages on day 1 with a P3 W3 record to top their groups, playing some fantastic running rugby along the way. This qualified them into separate semi-finals in the main cup competition on day 2.

In the semi-finals both teams came up against very tough English opposition but both teams managed to grind out hard-fought victories.

This set up a CI v CI final. However, after 4 years together as one squad none of the boys wanted to play against each other, and the trophy was shared. This meant that the whole squad were on-stage at the presentation event to receive the trophy and their winners medals from England and Leicester player, George Chuter.

A great weekend was had by all, with the tournament victory a very memorable climax to these mini-rugby careers.
