Clogher Valley RFC Inaugural Mud Run
Over 500 people took part in Clogher Valley Rugby Club's inaugural mud run which took place at the picturesque Blessingbourne Estate in Fivemiletown at the weekend.
The participants, who included local people and those from places as far away as Belfast and Antrim, completed a 5k course comprising mud swamps, tree mangles, stream crossings and wooden obstacles. Several of the more elite participants completed the course in well under an hour, others took their time and enjoyed the opportunity to wallow in the mud.
Clogher Valley Rugby Club President, Greg Irwin, said:
"Our rugby club prides itself on having a close connection with the local community. Providing the community with an opportunity to take part in physical activity and making this fun for all gives great satisfaction to the volunteers who put so much hard work in to make this event a success.
"We were delighted to see young and old, male and female, families, people from near and far taking part in our first mud run. The sheer joy on faces, the sense of achievement of many and the fun for all is part and parcel of our what out rugby club is about. The funds raised by the event will continue to allows us to not only provide everyone with an opportunity to play rugby but helps us to plan similar community participation events in the future."
