The 50% grant allowed for the sand slitting of both the main pitch and the training pitch to improve the surface. This work has therefore made it possible for the club to extend their role in the community by introducing rugby for young people with a learning disability.
After the very successful pilot last summer, Clare Hares has now become firmly established as an integral part of the club, meeting every Friday evening from 7-8.30pm, except when Ulster are playing at home of course! The season which is split, running from March to June and from September to December.
The group, sponsored by WJ Blair, Voy Vet Clinic, Green Thumb and other local businesses, has the full support of Ulster Rugby and coaching is run by fully trained rugby and disability trained coaches from within the club. Thanks are due to Tim Craig, Disability and Inclusion Officer, for all his guidance and support during the set up period.
For those with a learning disability from within the area why not come along and give it a try!! For more details contact Moore Kennedy via clareharesrugby@gmail.com.
