A round-up of the latest Danske Bank Schools’ rugby action, by Ulster Schools’ PRO Barney McGonigle:

Danske Bank Ulster Schools’ Medallion Competitions

On Wednesday 28 January, Campbell College played Grosvenor Grammar School in their Medallion Plate quarter-final game.

Campbell College won this game, 40-0.

On Saturday 31 January, the Medallion Shield quarter-finals, three of the Medallion Plate quarter-finals, both Medallion Bowl semi-final games and the Medallion Trophy semi-final games all took place.

In the Medallion Shield quarter-finals, Coleraine Grammar School played Royal Belfast Academical Institution in a game Coleraine Grammar won, 17-7.

Omagh Academy played Wallace High School in a game Wallace won, 18-0.

Royal School Armagh played Enniskillen Royal Grammar School in a RS Armagh won, 14-7.

Sullivan Upper School played Methodist College in a game that finished as a 7-7 draw.

In the Medallion Plate quarter-finals, Banbridge Academy played Ballymena Academy in a game Ballymena won, 24-12.

Larne Grammar School played Ballyclare High School in a very closely contested game Ballyclare High won, 3-0.

Rainey Endowed School played Regent House School in a game Rainey won, 31-0.

In the Medallion Bowl semi-finals, Belfast Royal Academy played Limavady Grammar School in a game BRA won, 43-5.

At the same time, the Royal School Dungannon played Friends’ School Lisburn in a game Friends’ won, 27-13.

In the Medallion Trophy semi-finals, Belfast High School played Wellington College in a game Belfast High won, 47-7.

Cambridge House Grammar School played Foyle College and won the game, 36-10.

Danske Bank Ulster Schools’ 2XV Competitions

On Saturday 31 January, all the 2XV Cup, 2XV Plate and 2XV Trophy semi-final games took place.

In the 2XV Cup semi-finals, Methodist College 2XV played Ballymena Academy 2XV in a very closely contested game Ballymena Academy won, with a last play of the game score, 8-7.

Campbell College 2XV played RBAI 2XV in a game which saw RBAI record a 28-26 win with a last play of the game score.

In the 2XV Plate semi-finals, Belfast Royal Academy 2XV played Regent House School 2XV in a game BRA won, 24-8.

Royal School Dungannon 2XV played Sullivan Upper School 2XV in a game refereed by that doyen of the USRFR, Mark Orr, now in his 42 year of refereeing Ulster Schools’ competition games.

The final score in this game was 14-19 to Sullivan.

In the 2XV Trophy semi-finals, Foyle College 2XV hosted their near neighbours from Limavady Grammar School 2XV.

Foyle College won this game, 33-0.

Bangor Grammar School 2XV played Omagh Academy 2XV in a game that finished as a 10-10 draw.

Danske Bank Ulster Schools’ 3XV Competitions

On Monday 26 January, Banbridge Academy 3XV hosted Royal Belfast Academical Institution 4XV in their 3XV Trophy Round of Sixteen game.

RBAI 4XV won this game, 45-5 and will now play RBAI 5XV in the quarter-final of the 3XV Trophy.

On Tuesday 27 January, the Ballymena Academy 3XV was scheduled to have played Campbell College 4XV in their 3XV Cup quarter-final game.

Unfortunately, this game fell victim to the horrendous weather conditions brought on by Storm Chandra and will now be played on Wednesday 4 February.

On Wednesday 28 January, Ballyclare High School 3XV played Belfast Royal Academy 3XV in their 3XV Cup quarter-final game.

BRA won this game, 40-19.

In the replay of their previously drawn 3XV Cup quarter-final game, Royal Belfast Academical Institution 3XV played Campbell College 3XV in a game Campbell College  won, 19-17.

In their 3XV Trophy quarter-final games, Bangor Grammar School 3XV hosted Wallace High School 3XV in a very high scoring game Wallace won, 40-31.

Foyle College 3XV played Down High School 3XV in a game Foyle College won, 29-7.

Sullivan Upper School 3XV played Regent House School 3XV in a game Sullivan Upper won, 40-17.

Once these 3XV Cup and 3XV Trophy results were confirmed, the draws for the semi-finals were released.

  • Foyle College 3XV v Sullivan Upper School 3XV

These semi-finals MUST be played on/before Saturday 14 February.
