Tell us a bit about yourself.
I’ve played rugby since I was 10. I’m quite hard to miss since I’m big and ginger.
How did you get involved in volunteering in sport?
I have a special needs sister, so I decided to come down and help out at the Xcessibles.
What is your volunteering role within the club?
Xcessible All Blacks youth volunteer
What does your role entail?
I help the kids complete the games, making sure they are excited for rugby and help set up games.
What attracted you to the role?
I have a sister whose special needs, so I am good with dealing with kids.
How long have you been volunteering in sports
I am volunteering a year now.
Did you have any rugby experience before you started volunteering?
Yes, I had six years experience beforehand.
Do you think it’s essential to have rugby experience to volunteer in your role or can anyone do it?
I think volunteering for the Xcessibles is just like playing for us, you can be of any skill level, any size or weight it doesn’t matter as long as you’re up for it.
Why did you decide to volunteer in your club?
To help out and keep playing rugby during summer.
Have you gained any new skills through volunteering?
I have learnt that you need a lot of patience.
Has volunteering improved your confidence?
I think it’s helped me understand people better.
Has volunteering in sport led to any other opportunities either in sport or outside of sport?
It has led to me getting a photo with the Six Nations Trophy at the Wooden Spoon tournament in Ireland's training camp.
Has volunteering in sport impacted positively on your life?
Yes it has, because it makes you feel really good afterwards.
Have you had any volunteering highlights?
Going to Portadown for the Panthers Festival.
What would you tell other people who would like to get involved in rugby but who don’t play or have no experience in rugby?
I’d tell them come down and give it a go.
