BALLYCLARE & CITY OF DERRY 2NDS SHARE POWERADE TOWNS CUP
The Powerade Towns Cup will be shared between Ballyclare and City of Derry 2nds after the teams played out an enthralling 28-28 draw in Monday afternoon’s final.
The game was forced into extra time when a later Ballyclare penalty meant the sides could not be separated after 80 minutes.
They traded penalties in the opening half of extra time and then added unconverted tries to their respective tallies to leave the score locked at 28-28.
BALLYNAHINCH WIN THIRD CRAWFORD CUP
Ballynahinch 3rd XV won the Crawford Cup for the third time after holding off a strong fightback from Coleraine 2nds to emerge as 14-12 victors in Tuesday’s final.
Tries from John Gunson and Mark McCormick, both converted by Robbie Irvine, gave ‘Hinch a 14-0 lead at the break.
The defending champions responded after the interval with tries from Andrew Hutchinson and Nigel Hall. Paul Shiels landed one conversion but it was not enough as ‘Hinch held on.
CIYMS TRIUMPH IN McCREA CUP BATTLE
CIYMS registered at 22-12 win over Belfast rivals Cooke on Wednesday evening to achieve McCrea Cup success for the first time since 1946.
Cooke opened the scoring with an unconverted try by three quarter Philip Doherty, but his effort was cancelled out by scores from Stuart Ferguson and Ross Hackney, both of which were converted by Davy O’Hara.
Centre Andy Hodgen scored his side’s third try and O’Hara added a conversion to extend the lead to 22-5. Replacement winger Scott McClure touched down for a consolation Cooke score late on.
