The night started with a joint training session assisted by Zoe Templeton from the Ulster Branch before both teams lined up for a short game of Tag. Clogher Valley were quick off the mark and displayed some superb handling and evasion skills and the game ended with Dungannon losing 4- 3.
After a short break both teams lined up again for their first encounter at full contact rugby. The early signs were good with Dungannon threatening up the middle. Clogher halted the danger and cleared their lines but back came the hosts and during an assault on the Clogher line, winger Laura Saunders dived over in the corner for the first try of the night.
The Clogher girls retaliated with several notable runs from their flying winger but these came to an end after a tackle that forced her to go off injured.
With Clogher down one player Dungannon launched another attack up the middle that opened up space on the right side to allow Lauren Boyd to burstthrough for Dungannon’s second try of the night.
The Clogher girls regrouped and their flying winger came back on. This time it was Clogher who attacked up the middle and fine interplay saw a deep forage into Dungannon’s danger zone that was only stopped by a superb tackle by Dungannon’s Sarah Sheresta that saw the ball turned over. Dungannon
counter attacked and swept the ball out left where the speedy Teah Cullen burst down the blind side and in at the corner that ended the first half 3- 0.
The second half kicked off with Dungannon on the front foot again. Aggressive tackling and some fine kicking by Dungannon’s Lucy Turkington kept up the pressure on Clogher until another mistake allowed Laura Saunders to strike from the wing and go over in the right corner for the fourth try of the night.
As the game came to the end with both teams looking battered and tired Dungannon’s forward Kim Johnston took the ball from just over the half way and barged her way to the line taking out a tackler on her way and ending the game 5- 0
Both teams retired to the club house for a well deserved bottle of lemonade and a hot dog and a chance to discuss the evening’s events.
