East Belfast Primary Schools Start Contact Rugby

Over the past few weeks three schools in the East Belfast area have started take part in contact rugby for the first time.

The schools are Belvoir Primary School, Avoniel Primary School and Harding Memorial Primary School through coaching by East Belfast Community Rugby Coach, Neill Alcorn.

The kids from the schools have shown great progress over the last few weeks and the skills have improved week by week.

The schools have been invited to a DCAL contact blitz in Cookstown for the first time which will be a great day out.

This coaching from Alcorn has been made possible due to the generous support of the NI Executive and the Department of Culture, Arts and Leisure through the 'Promoting Equality, Tackling Poverty and Social Exclusion through Sport' Programme.

Meanwhile, girls at Wellington College have started practising contact rugby for next year, as Ulster Rugby aim to get girls schools playing more contact matches.
