Enniskillen Collegiate win Girls Schools' Cup Final

A strong second half performance from Enniskillen Collegiate gave them a 9 tries to 5 victory over Grosvenor Grammar in the Girls Schools' Cup Final at Ravenhill on Tuesday 9th April.

Despite 38 teams competing in the competition, it was no surprise that the match was a repeat of last year’s final, but Enniskillen produced an excellent all round performance to ensure a different outcome this season. They have now won the trophy four times in the past five years.

Claire Caruth opened the scoring for Grosvenor after just three minutes, before the impressive Catherine Dane responded with a touch down for the Collegiate. The two teams traded scores twice more in an entertaining half but a try just before the interval put Enniskillen 4-3 up at the turnaround.

Grosvenor scored first after the break but Enniskillen raced into an 8-4 lead as their offloading game started to have the desired effect. A score for each side in the closing stages left the final scoreline reading 9-5.

The Enniskillen try scorers were Cathy Dane (2), Rebecca Pennell (2), Jane Simpson (2), Amy Christie, Emma Shaw and Alice Hurst. Claire Caruth (2), Nicole Muirhead (2) and Erin Caughey replied for Grosvenor GS.

Ashleigh Baxter, a member of the Ireland Women’s squad which won the 6 Nations Grand Slam last month, Ulster Rugby star Paddy Wallace and IRFU Ulster Branch president Robin Cole were at Ravenhill to present the trophy to Enniskillen Collegiate captain Faith Viney.
