Enniskillen Royal GS win Girls' Tag Schools' Cup

The Danske Bank Girls' Tag Schools' Cup Finals Day took place at Mid-Ulster Sports Arena on Friday past.

9 schools took part on the day with games played on a round-robin format. The semi-finals saw Grosvenor secure a 3 tries to 1 victory over a Fivemiletown College team who had impressed during the pool stages. The other semi-final was a repeat of last year’s final with Enniskillen Royal Grammar School taking on last year’s winners, Royal School Dungannon. This year the result went the way of the Fermanagh girls to set up a very familiar final face-off between Grosvenor and Enniskillen.

Nerves were evident from both teams as mistakes crept in at crucial times in the early exchanges of the final. After some sustained pressure it was Enniskillen who drew first blood. The game was far from over and Grosvenor responded with a try of their own. Enniskillen responded quickly to set up a nerve-wracking final period but when Enniskillen touched down for a third time late on it was just too much of a deficit for Grosvenor to recover in the time they had left. The Danske Bank Trophy will return to Enniskillen yet again.

Thanks to all the players and the teachers who facilitated a fantastic day of tag rugby. The skill-level is improving year on year and it was an exceptionally high quality final to end the day.
