With registration now officially OPEN for both our Spring and Summer leagues, here is everything you need to know about the fastest-growing social sport in the province.
### What is Tag Rugby?
Tag Rugby is a fun, fast-paced, non-contact version of the game. Instead of tackling, players "tag" the opponent by pulling a velcro ribbon from their belt. Because it is non-contact and mixed-gender, it focuses on skill, speed, and strategy rather than size or strength.
### Choose Your Season
We offer structured leagues designed to get everyone on the pitch, regardless of experience:
- Spring League: Features 20 teams competing over six weeks. The first three weeks are dedicated to grading, ensuring teams are matched by ability for the final three weeks of league play.
- Summer League: Our flagship league with various divisions, including dedicated brackets for beginners and non-beginners.
### Why It’s So Popular
The most common worry for new players is a lack of experience. However, you don’t need a rugby background to excel.
> “I believe the sport is popular because it appeals to such a wide group of people. Teams are usually a group of friends or office colleagues looking for physical exercise and a great social atmosphere after the game.”
One of the best parts of the league is seeing the growth in new players. Many arrive in week one feeling nervous, but with encouragement from referees, volunteers, and even the opposition, they quickly find their rhythm. By the end of the first few weeks, most players are asking why they can only play once a week!
