Get Involved | Volunteer Talent Coaches

Ulster Rugby are currently looking for volunteer coaches to be part of our exciting Talent Coaches programme.

Main role:

The role will be to help deliver a coaching programme to age-grade representative players aged 15 years upwards. This role is part of the Talent Coach Development Pathway whereby a supported programme of Coach Development is available for all coaches involved.

How can this role benefit volunteers?

This role will give a small number of volunteer coaches the opportunity to:

·      Work with the best young players in the Province

·      Be part of a dynamic coaching team delivering the latest thinking in player and team development.

·      Further develop their coaching skills, learn new techniques and skills which will help to realise their coaching ambitions.

Key tasks:

·      Working as part of a team, and in support of Ulster Rugby staff, to deliver a player development programme to Age Grade Players as part of the Provincial Summer Programme.

·      Assisting Ulster Rugby staff to analyse your development needs as a coach and to commit to a programme of self-development.

Time and location:

The programme runs commences in late June and runs to late August, with sessions taking place at Newforge Country club on the following days and times.  Each Talent Coach would be affiliated to one age grade squad for the duration of the Summer programme.

\-       Training Days- Tuesday, Thursday & Saturday

\-       Training Times- 8.30am-11am

U17 Schools

\-       Training Days- Tuesday & Thursday

\-       Training Times- Tue- 3pm-5pm, Thur 5pm-7pm

U16 Schools

\-       Training Days- Tuesday & Thursday

\-       Training Times- Tue- 5pm-7pm, Thur 3pm-5pm

Support:

Support will be provided by a range of staff:

·      Rugby Development staff

·      UR Pathway coaches

·      Academy Manager/Coaches

Training:

All volunteer coaches will receive IRFU (Ulster Branch) induction training and an induction to the Talent Coach Programme.

Due to the nature of this role, you will need to participate in, or have recently completed an IRFU (Ulster Branch) approved Safeguarding training course. Volunteer coaches will be supported to produce Training Needs Analysis and encouraged to achieve identified goals, through a Personal Coach Development plan.

Expenses and Equipment:

This programme does not currently provide out of pocket expenses for volunteer coaches.

Each volunteer coach will receive an allocation of Ulster Rugby branded kit to support them to carry out their role.

Experience, skills and qualities:

IRFU (Ulster Branch) feels that in order to be successful in this role, volunteers should have:

·      Commitment to the ethos of IRFU/Ulster Rugby and to the relevant Codes of Conduct.

·      Hold an IRFU Stage 2 (Youth Coach) or Stage 3 (Senior Coach) Coaching qualification or equivalent

·      2 years' experience of coaching school or youth rugby

·      Commitment, enthusiasm and reliability – to Ulster Rugby Player development and to continual self-improvement.

·      Ability to work as part of a team – In order to successfully fulfil the role the Talent Coach needs to be able to work effectively with the players, parents, other coaches, managers and Ulster Rugby staff.

·      Availability - Given the investment of time and training by IRFU/Ulster Rugby in supporting and developing volunteers in this role we would ask that volunteers commit to the entire or majority of the Summer programme.

Access NI and references:

Please note that this role is subject to the receipt of a satisfactory Access NI check and references. Due to the nature of this role, all volunteers will be asked to sign a confidentiality agreement.

Additional information:

It is anticipated that there will be a high level of interest in this volunteer opportunity. Anyone who expresses an interest will be asked to complete a volunteer registration form which will form the basis for shortlisting. Everyone who has been shortlisted will be invited to participate in a selection process to help us to identify the most suitable coaches for the opportunity.
