Five Primary Schools from South Belfast were involved; St Anne’s, St Ita’s, Cairnshill, Finaghy and Taughmonagh.
Brain Hughes, Club Community Rugby Officer at Instonians RFC, said: “The children were really looking forward to this event. It is the culmination of six weeks rugby coaching in the individual schools. They wanted to test their new skills against other schools”.
Almost 20 volunteer coaches, referees and helpers from Instonians turned up to make sure that everyone was safe and enjoyed themselves. Bill Lockhart the Seahorse Youth Rugby co-ordinator commented: “It is brilliant to see our grounds used in this way. We hope that at least some of the kids will take up rugby; it’s great for their health, fitness and teamwork. Friends for life can be made through sport.”
Seahorses have U13 training on Wednesday nights at 7.00pm. Absolutely everyone is welcome. Just turn up! “It was fantastic,” said a P7 player from St Anne’s Primary School.
