Summer 2016 will see the new IRFU Touch Rugby programme taking to rugby clubs in Belfast, Dublin and Galway, in association with Cadbury Boost as its main sponsor.
WHAT IS CADBURY BOOST TOUCH?
Cadbury Boost Touch is a minimal contact form of rugby played by male, female and mixed teams. The minimum contact form of ‘Touch’ entails a player coming into contact with the opposition player. This allows Men and Women of all ages to participate at a level suitable to their ability and experience, from Higher Grade through to Beginners.
Each team has six 'Touches' (a touch is initiated by contact with any part of the body) to score. If there is no score, possession is then handed over to the opposition team who will then in turn play a 'set-of-six' and so on.
Tries are scored the very same way as in regular rugby i.e. touching down the ball with full control on or over the try line. Also as with regular rugby, the normal laws for a pass having to be behind or lateral all apply.
HOW MANY ON A TOUCH TEAM?
The recommended squad size for a Cadbury Boost Touch team is 12 players. During a game, each team must have no more than six players on the field of play at any one time. Of the six players on field in a mixed game, THREE must be female.
I'VE NEVER PLAYED ANY RUGBY BEFORE. CAN I STILL PLAY?
Of course you can. There is minimal CONTACT in Cadbury Boost Touch. It is easy to pick up as well as great fun.
