South African fullback, Louis Ludik, arrived in Belfast this week. After a few quick introductions it was straight into pre-season training for the 27 year-old former Sharks and Agen player. He has been impressed with life at Ulster so far:

“The facilities are the best that I have seen,” he says. “They are the next level. It is such a privilege just to be there and to work out – it is awesome.

“Pre season is always tough. I know that I am going to struggle to get out of bed tomorrow morning but it is worth it when you get into the season.”

It is not just the training facilities that have struck Louis about life in Belfast. He has found the people welcoming too:

“People have been really friendly,” says Louis. “We are still trying to find our way about but everyone that we have spoken to has been so helpful.

“We want to see what Ulster is all about. Next week we are planning to take an open top bus tour to see a bit more of Belfast.”

It may be five weeks until the first game of the season, but Louis is looking forward to pulling on an Ulster jersey:

“At the moment it is all about getting fit and learning how the coaches want me to play and where they want me to fit into the team,” he says.

“When I get onto the field I will give everything as a player. I can’t wait to get out there.”
