The finals day at Ballymena RFC was contested by 12 schools from across the Province who each had to qualify through regional blitz days.
The weather was perfect for running rugby and the teams didn’t disappoint in the group stages with plenty of tries being scored. Dromore High School, Lurgan Junior High School and Killicomaine Junior High School progressed as pool winners and were joined in the semi-finals by Carrick College, who were the overall best runners up.
Dromore defeated Killicomaine while Lurgan saw off Carrick College in two closely fought last four clashes.
Lurgan JHS and Dromore HS have met in finals several times over the past few years and this proved to be yet another physical encounter. But the Lurgan team just had too much power and pace and were deserved 12-0 winners after registering tries from Ryan Emerson and Michael Watson. Captain Jonny Hunter added one conversion.
Ulster Rugby star Nick Williams was on hand to present the Ulster Carpets U14 High Schools’ Shield to Lurgan Junior High School captain Jonny Hunter.
