Match Report: Leinster U18 Girls 48-0 Ulster U18 Girls

Ulster's Under 18 Girls fall to defeat against their Leinster opposition at Energia Park.

It didn’t take Leinster long to establish their authority in the Bank of Ireland-sponsored U18 Girls Interprovincial Championship at sunny Energia Park on Saturday afternoon.

The Blues were out of the traps in rapid fashion, prop Emma Jane Wilson offloading in style and out-half Heidi Lyons beautifully delaying the pass to put Niamh Murphy in on the right for Lyons to convert.

The windless conditions made for pro-active rugby and Leinster were able to swing the ball wide for the speed merchants to go one-on-one.

The ever-dangerous Murphy was on the mark again when her power through contact was too much, Lyons again adding the extras.

Eventually, Sadhbh Furlong had the answer for a dedicated Ulster defence, spinning out of a tackle to reach out for the whitewash, Lyons immaculately landing the conversion from out wide for 21-0 in the 22nd minute.

Leinster were set a challenge when Alex Connor and Alma Atagamen were binned for indiscretions.

Centre Murphy nailed Beth McBurney in the tackle and wing Emma Boggan’s footwork took the home side out of trouble.

It wasn’t long before a late change of direction by Lyons opened the door for prop Kate Noons to come hard on the angle for a fine try for 26-0 at the half.

Leinster were soon on the frontfoot again, the ball moved right where Usha Daly-O’Toole’s evasion, speed and strength saw the number eight complete a wonderful individual effort for Lyons to add the conversion.

Lyons stopped up and around Ulster's defence en route to another tremendous try for 38-0 in the 49th minute.

It could have been an even wider margin had Ulster not suck to their guns in defence with full-back Orlaith Breen showing glimpses of class on the ball.

But, it came as no surprise when Murphy spotted a gap on the blindside to stroll over for a hat-trick before laying on another for Emma Boggan.
