Match Report | Munster U19 26 - 30 Ulster U19

Ulster U19 walk away with the win after a hard-fought battle against Munster U19 in Cork on Sunday, with Daniel Green sealing the win with a drop goal.

The hosts were first to get on the scoreboard when Munster winger Calem Harte crashed over in the third minute for an unconverted try.

They struck again just five minutes later when Robert Carney crossed over the white wash with Charlie O’Shea adding the extras, putting them 12 points ahead.

Ulster got their first try of the day in the 16th minute when Rio McDonagh touched down. Fly-half Daniel Green followed with the conversion, closing the gap to 12-7.

Ulster piled on the pressure and proved a threatening side in Munster’s 22, and added another two converted tries to the scoreboard in the first half, with Josh Dobbin crashing over the whitewash, as well as a powerful maul try from hooker, James Clark. Munster were first to strike once again in the second half as they barrelled a maul over in the 39th minute with Charlie O’Shea adding the extras, closing the gap to 19-21.

Daniel Green gave Ulster a bit of breathing space, sending a penalty through the posts in the 49th minute, however moments later, Munster’s Charlie O’Shea broke the Ulster defensive line and crashed over the whitewash, pushing the hosts into the lead by two single points, 26-24.

Daniel Green was the man of the moment, with a penalty followed by a drop goal in the 61st minute, saw Ulster through as the winners, with the final score reading, 26-30.

Overall Munster played a strong running tactic moving the ball out wide, but Ulster were more threatening in the maul and in making sure we came away with points once in the Munster 22.

Daniel Green had a fantastic game with his kicking skills and how he managed the game. Special mentions go to Rio McDonagh, Callum McKinney, James Clark and Jake Scott for their work around the pitch and sheer effort. The lads had a really hard-fought game, and should all be proud walking away with the win.

Player of the Match was awarded to Daniel Green and Callum McKinney.
