It was the visitors that broke the deadlock on seven minutes after being awarded a penalty in the Ulster 22, Munster scrum half Chris Barrett took a quick tap and had enough pace to dart over but centre Harry Murphy was off target with the conversion.
Ulster responded with a try of their own four minutes later, Munster were penalised for holding on in the tackle allowing the home side to punt the ball into the corner.
Blindside flanker Noah Bell took the resulting lineout to set up a driving maul, the forwards powered over the line with No8 Ryan Hanna dotting down with scrum half Connor McVicker adding the conversion.
Munster got their second try on 15 minutes with Ulster guilty of side entry at the ruck just outside their own 22.
The visitors opted to kick to the corner from a powerful maul, hooker Jonathan Byrne, was propelled over the line, Murphy again missed the conversion.
A great break by out half Tom Wood earned Munster another penalty, which again they kicked to touch. From the lineout they surged towards the line but a good Ulster defence forced a knockout.
However, a third try did arrive for the visitors on 27 minutes and again it was the powerful pack that was the catalyst.
From a lineout drive Munster forced a scrum in front of the Ulster posts, after working the ball through a couple of phases. Tight head prop Cian Walsh barged over from close range and Murphy was successful with the extras.
Ulster missed a good opportunity to reduce the deficit, they kicked a penalty to the corner but were guilty of crossing as they set up the driving maul.
A strong line break but Ulster centre Cameron Cummings set up the home side’s second try three minutes before the interval.
