I got involved with the Virginia All Blacks Xcessible tag rugby team 6 years ago and found it to be great fun and really rewarding. I enjoy long walks and photography.
How did you get involved in volunteering in sport?
I was asked by Peter Skelly who had the great idea of starting the Virginia All Blacks if I would help out and it just started from there. That was 7 years ago now.
What is your volunteering role within the club?
I manage & am one of the coaches for the Virginia All Blacks
What does your role entail?
I manage the Virginia All Blacks & coach the junior All Blacks side.
What attracted you to the role?
There was/is a real need for inclusive sports in our community. And Xcessible tag is a great way for all abilities to enjoy rugby.
How long have you been volunteering in sports and has it always been in this role?
I've been volunteering with the All Blacks for the last 6 years.
Do you think it’s essential to have rugby experience to volunteer in your role or can anyone do it?
Anyone can volunteer and it is so rewarding to see the players enjoying themselves, building their confidence and making new friends.
Why did you decide to volunteer in your club?
Because I was asked and seen a real need in our club and community for more inclusion in sports. To give every child the opportunity to play and be part of team.
Have you had any volunteering Highlights if yes, what was it?
There is lots of moments to pick from, from seeing kids just enjoying training and taking part in events. Seeing parents’ pride in their kids and so happy to be part of the All Blacks. To the amazing volunteers & coaches that help out during the summer. Lots of highlights. It's just amazing to be part of it.
