New faces involved in Ulster Women's Interprovincial campaign

The Ulster Women's team, sponsored by Deloitte, will kick-off their Interprovincial campaign on Sunday 3rd December with the visit of Leinster Women to Dromore RFC.

In preparation for the series Ulster Rugby has recruited an all new Coach/Management team to oversee the programme delivery.

Ulster Womens Performance Consultant: Derek Suffern
Head Coach: Davy Chambers
Assistant Coach: James McBriar
S&C Coach: Paul Heasley
Team Manager: Gillian McAlister
Squad Physio: Aine Conway

Under the guidance of Derek Suffern, a coach of significant experience at the top end of All Ireland & Schools rugby in the province, the new team have been working with the players at training camps and sessions, hosted regularly, since an initial screening session in August.

Looking ahead to the Interprovincial campaign, Suffern commented:

“I’m really enjoying the challenge with a group that has impressed in terms of commitment, work ethic and especially their willingness to improve. Everyone in the squad is looking forward to the big challenge of performing well enough in the inter-pros. We are all very driven to achieve our goals this year.”

Head Coach Davy Chambers enters the Senior Provincial Women’s environment having led the U18 side to success in the inaugural U18 Girls Interprovincial series in 2016 and sees his appointment as a natural progression from that role:

“There is so much exciting young rugby talent in the women’s game across the province, whether that be in Enniskillen, Virginia, Belfast, Derry or anywhere in between. The task for us will be to introduce and nurture that talent, alongside the established provincial panel to improve the standards and results of the provincial team.”

Ulster Rugby would like to congratulate all of the players, new and returning, for their dedication to the programme and their involvement to date.
