Nutty Krust Tournament | City of Armagh U18s v Banbridge U18s

The fourth of this season’s Nutty Krust group stage games got underway in the Nutty Krust U18 Tournament under the floodlights at a cool, but dry, Chambers Park when the City of Armagh FC U18 team played the Banbridge RFC U18 team on Monday evenin...

A sizeable and very enthusiastic crowd had gathered to watch this entertaining, hard fought Nutty Krust game, which the City of Armagh U18 team won by 49-0 and which featured quite a few talented players on both teams.

The game was well refereed by Robbie Mitchell, from the USRFR. The Nutty Krust organising committee is grateful to the USRFR for ensuring all the Nutty Krust games are refereed by members of the USRFR.

Despite the big defensive shift put in by the Banbridge RFC U18 team, there was little that the Banbridge U18 players could do against the constant wave of City of Armagh U18 attacks to prevent the seven tries scored by the City of Armagh team.

Thomas Jenkins started and finished the City of Armagh FC U18 try scoring spree and ran in for an eventual hattrick.

Elliott Nicholas, Alfie Hughes, Liam Griffin and Daniel Evans each scored one try with Padraic Carville having a great game off the tee with all seven successful conversion kicks.

As usual with the Nutty Krust Tournament, the players all received a post-match meal which was sponsored by Hewitt Meats, prepared by the staff in “Flat Dogs Gourmet Food” Restaurant, and organised by Matthew Wickham in serving the food. All the players, as well as their coaches, received a Nutty Krust loaf on departure.

Clive Bowles, a member of the Nutty Krust Committee and USRFR Referee Coach, presented the Nutty Krust “Man of the Match Award” at the post-match ceremony. The Man of the Match Award went to Padraic Carville, the City of Armagh FC U18 No 10.

The next of this season’s Nutty Krust Tournament games will be played on Wednesday 11th March at Chambers Park when the Dungannon FC U18 team will play the Rainey RFC U18 team at 7-45pm in the third of the Group B games.

It will be a case of winner takes all from this game as the winning team will qualify for the final of the final of the Nutty Krust Tournament which is scheduled for Wednesday 1st April.

All visitors and supporters to the game will be made to feel very welcome and are invited to use the Portadown RFC facilities before and after the game .
