Nutty Krust Tournament | Omagh Accies RFC U18s v Rainey RFC U18s

The third of this season’s group stage games got underway in the Nutty Krust U18 Tournament under the floodlights at a cool, but dry, Chambers Park when Omagh Accies U18 played Rainey U18 on Wednesday evening in second of the Group B games.

A sizeable and very enthusiastic crowd had gathered to watch this entertaining, well contested game, which Rainey won by 24-12 and which featured quite a few talented players on both teams.

The game was well refereed by Geoffrey Berry, from the USRFR, who the Nutty Krust organising committee is grateful to.

The Omagh points came through tries from Michael Patterson   and John Colhoun with one successful conversion kick from Harry Clarke.

The Rainey points came through tries from Matthew Sufferin, Emmett McNulty, Pearse McKenna and Aaron Buck.

Emmett McNulty completed a fine personal performance when he added the extras to two of the Rainey tries.

As usual with the Nutty Krust Tournament, the players all received a post-match meal which was sponsored by Hewitt Meats, prepared by the staff in Flat Dogs Gourmet Food Restaurant, and organised by Matthew Wickham. All the players, as well as their coaches, received a Nutty Krust loaf on departure.

Brian Irwin, Director of Irwin’s Bakery, the long standing Nutty Krust Tournament sponsors presented the Nutty Krust Player of the Match Award at the post-match ceremony. This went to Rainey number 8, Pearce McKenna.

The next of this season’s Nutty Krust Tournament games will be played on Monday 9 March at Chambers Park when City of Armagh U18 will play Banbridge U18 at 7.45pm.

All visitors and supporters to the game will be made to feel very welcome and are invited to use the Portadown RFC facilities before and after the game.
