Nutty Krust Tournament | Portadown/Lurgan RFC U18s v Banbridge RFC U18s

The second of this season’s group stage games got underway in the Nutty Krust U18 Tournament under the floodlights at a cool, but dry, Chambers Park when Portadown/Lurgan U18 played Banbridge U18 on Wednesday 25 February in Group A.

A sizeable and very enthusiastic crowd had gathered to watch this entertaining, well contested, high scoring, closely-contested game, which Banbridge won by 24-21 and which featured quite a few talented players on both teams.

The game was well refereed by Jo Stafford, from the USRFR, which the Nutty Krust organising committee is grateful to.

The Banbridge points came through tries from Eren Strydon and Sam Leslie, with a brace.

Max Ireland was successful with one early penalty kick as well as three successful conversion kicks.

The Portadown/Lurgan points came through tries from Adam Wallace, Isaac Owen and Caleb Ruddell.

Adam Wallace completed a fine personal performance when he added the extras to all three of the tries.

As usual with the Nutty Krust Tournament, the players all received a post-match meal which was sponsored by Hewitt Meats, prepared by the staff in Flat Dogs Gourmet Food Restaurant, and organised by Matthew Wickham. All the players, as well as their coaches, received a Nutty Krust loaf on departure.

Gary Jackson, a former King’s Scholar, President of Portadown RFC and a member of the NK Committee, presented the Nutty Krust Player of the Match Award at the post-match ceremony. This went to Banbridge number 8, Aodhan Tiernan.
