Payne ruled out of rest of Lions tour

Ulster's Jared Payne has been ruled out of the remainder of the British & Irish Lions Tour.

The New Zealand born back featured in the mid-week games versus the Auckland Blues and the Highlanders, and also made a try-scoring contribution to the win over the Chiefs on June 20th, but was forced to withdraw from the match-day squad to play the Hurricanes, after experiencing headaches.

Lions team doctor Eanna Falvey commented, "He had a bang in the Chiefs game, but he was fully cleared from concussion."

Dr Falvey added: “Thankfully all his tests have been good, there's nothing concerning there but he's suffering for migranous symptoms at the moment.”

British & Irish Lions Head Coach Warren Gatland said: “While the findings of Jared’s tests have been normal he still has a migraine and will not be fit to train until his symptoms have settled.

“The specialists are happy that the symptoms are not concussion related and he is expected to recover fully. We wish him a speedy recovery.”
