Dan Soper was asked about his thoughts on the team's performance and what pleased him most about the display.
On performance
"I loved the ambition we played with, we put some nice kicks down the edge which put us in a good position on the park. Maybe at times this year we have overplayed in our own half, the backs put in some great kicks that put us into good positions. On penalty advantage we tried to play and keep the ball, had a few turnovers but there was an energy and an excitement that I really enjoyed watching."
Positivity
"That’s a happy changing room down there. We asked for energy, we asked for competitiveness and if we could get those we would have a lot of enjoyment. There were a lot of smiling faces on the pitch and it was a good night for us. Personally there is a touch of relief after the past week or so, but we did a lot of things well, some we didn’t, but that group knows that is the benchmark and they want to kick on.
It’s one game, it was really important that we performed and showed a togetherness and an energy that the crowd and support could feel. We are taking it one game at a time, we can keep getting better and show that energy."
South Africa focus
"We’ll enjoy that tonight, have a week off and do some training before we go there. We have usually performed well in South Africa, I know we haven’t always won but we have done ok in the last few years. The guys are excited about getting away as a group, see the sun for a few weeks and see if we can push on."
On his week in charge
"I’ve loved the week it’s been, its been really enjoyable because of the support staff and the group who have got behind me and it’s been awesome, humbling and the players have been really positive with lot’s of energy. When you feel that confidence its brilliant. It’s been such a positive experience."
Welcoming Richie Murphy this month
"He has so many connections with guys here, he will join us for South Africa. He will have two weeks on the grass with guys and the time away from the pitch too, it gives an opportunity for him to get to know the guys and vice versa. The timing is good."
James Hume as captain
"James has done a really good job. I've known James a long time, and if somebody said to me at 14 or 15 years old that he would captain Ulster one day I’d have thought you gone mad! He was a different kid then but he has shown a great maturity and developed as a person.
He has been a part of the leadership group this season and is a really strong voice in the group. James is very driven for himself and Ulster to get better. He is a strong leader and we are fortunate to have a good group of guys with experience and leadership."
Jude Postlethwaite spoke after being named the Player of the Match for his combative performance in the centre alongside captain, James Hume.
On being named POTM
"It feels class, I have been working my way to get back into the team and its paid off thankfully. Everyone played so well and its good to get back on track."
On positive training week
" It was great fun, we spoke this week about getting back to our brand of rugby and everyone was smiling tonight."
On working with Richie Murphy
"I know Richie well from Ireland U20s and I’m really excited to work with him. He sets a good standard in training and I know we will gel together as a team."
On getting game-time with City of Armagh RFC
"Playing at City of Armagh was really important for game time when I wasn't in the team. 1A is a good level and it’s great to play with those lads, it has brought me on as a player and it's good to get a few games under my belt with Ulster. It’s a big step up but I am getting used to the playing style."
Looking forward
"I think Sopes (Dan Soper) has done a good job getting a good buzz into the place and I think its paid off tonight. We will go into South Africa with a lot of confidence."
