Q & A: Ireland U18 7s Player Vicki Graham

Congratulations to Clogher Valley player Vicki Graham who has been selected to represent Ireland U18 Girls 7s at the UK Schools’ competition in September.

We caught up with Vicki recently and asked her a few questions about her rugby journey so far...

Age?
15

Position?
Wing

How long have you been playing rugby for?
I have been playing rugby for four years but have always had an interest from a young age.

What got you into rugby at the first place?
When starting secondary school at Fivemiletown College, the enthusiastic PE teachers held various after-school rugby sessions. We attended many local rugby blitzes and entered the Schools' Cup competition, which developed my love for rugby. From this I then joined an excellent local rugby club, Clogher Valley RFC, where I was encouraged by dedicated coaches to develop my skills.

What three things do you enjoy most about rugby?
- I enjoy the competitiveness of this sport
- I like the team work aspect of rugby
- I enjoy rugby because it is a way of socialising with other girls and meeting new friends

What advice would you give to any girls thinking of trying rugby?
Give it a try. There is a position suitable for everyone. It is a good way of keeping fit while experiencing a feeling of excitement. I would highly recommend any girl interested in rugby to attend the Ulster Summer Camps, where you can develop skills with friendly coaches.

If you want to follow in the footsteps of Vicki then why not give rugby a try? There will be an open training session at Clogher Valley RFC on Saturday 18th July (11am-1pm).

The session is open to beginners and players-alike (born between 1/7/97 and 30/6/03) and will focus on evasion, handling and tackle technique.

There is no charge for the session but please register by emailing Neal.Johnston@ulsterrugby.com and include:
