The Reds squad is littered with Wallabies stars including Australia captain Harry Wilson, Fraser McReight, Tate McDermott, Lukhan Salakaia-Loto, Matt Faessler and Tom Lynagh, son of legendary Australian fly-half Michael Lynagh.
Planned as a pre-season preparation for their Super Rugby Pacific season, the Reds will face Bristol Bears on Friday 31 January before taking on Ulster in Belfast on Friday 7 February.
Having been formerly Ulster Director of Rugby, Les Kiss is excited to get back to his former home and anticipates a stern test for his side at Kingspan Stadium.
“Our second game is an Irish challenge against Ulster. We’re going to experience a tough environment where the Ulster fans are celebrating 100 years of rugby at their Ravenhill home.
“These experiences are what make rugby the game it is. The International Program we have created for Queensland rugby is something we are very keen to continue into the future.
“Our players are absolutely pumped to go on this tour. It’s also a great opportunity for our staff who rarely get this experience,” Kiss said.
Tickets for this once-in-a generation match can be purchased at ulster.rugby/buytickets.
This will be the third time Ulster have faced off against Queensland Reds, with the Reds running out 6-4 winners in their first meeting on a wet and windy night in Belfast back in 1986, with Wallabies Michael Lynagh, Andy McIntyre, Tom Lawton, Andrew Slack, Brendan Moon and Roger Gould all representing the Brisbane natives that evening.
It would be 22 years until our next meeting, with a youthful Ulster side featuring the likes of Rory Best, Darren Cave and Paddy Wallace running out 24-0 winners in a pre-season contest.
