Rainey Endowed School win Danske Bank Schools' U16 Plate

Rainey Endowed have won the 22/23 Danske Bank Schools' U16 Plate after recording victories in their group fixtures.

Four teams entered the Danske Bank Schools' U16 Plate: Rainey ES, Regent House, Coleraine GS and Ballyclare HS. It was decided that the schools would play a round robin format to determine the winners.

Rainey ES started their competition as they travelled to Regent House on Wednesday 21 September, and came away with a 32-15 victory.

Rainey scored 3 first half tries through Pearse McIvor, Harry Keatley and Henry Shanker to lead 15-3 at half-time.

Three further tries by George Stone, Owen O’Kane and Ben Bell, together with a Ben Bell conversion gave Rainey a 32-15 victory.

Rainey were then due to play Coleraine GS in their second group game, but unfortunately due to injuries, Coleraine GS were unable to field a team, so conceded the game.

In their final group game on Wednesday 5th October, Rainey were at home to Ballyclare HS.

In a closely contested first half Rainey took a 12-3 lead with tries from Patrick McNulty and Andrew Elliott. Owen O’Kane kicked one conversion.

Rainey played some really entertaining rugby to score 4 further tries in the second half. The scorers were Charlie McConville, Patrick McNulty, Padraig Kearney and George Stone. Owen O’Kane kicked 4 conversions to give Rainey a 40-3 victory.

This result ensured that Rainey ES U16 squad were the Danske Bank U16 Plate champions.
