Rugby Club Organises 100km Clogher Valley Charity Cycle

Clogher Valley RFC is calling upon local people to come out and support a 100km historic cycle of the valley for three good causes on Saturday 27th June 2015. The Tour of the Clogher Valley charity cycle will take in the breadth of the valley and the surrounding area. Organisers have also provided a shorter 55 km route for those who would like a less demanding challenge. The charity cycle is one of a programme of events to mark the 25th anniversary of the rugby club’s formation in 1990.

Club President, Greg Irwin, said that the cycle was an important way for the rugby club to contribute to worthwhile causes:

“As we mark our 25th year we recognise, as a charity, the importance of giving back, of thinking about others and of making a positive contribution to society. We are asking the local community to come out and support this event which is about supporting good causes that are dear to our hearts.”

One of the charities to benefit from the funds raised by the event is the MS Society, which supports the needs of those with Multiple Sclerosis.

Another good cause being supported commemorates one of the Club’s youth coaches, Heather Erskine, who passed away following a long battle with breast cancer. Her sister, Liz Breen, said that the cycle would raise funds to practically support local people who are living with cancer. Finally, the funds raised will support the work of the Wooden Spoon Society, which is a rugby charity for children with Learning Disabilities.

The event starts and finishes at Clogher Valley Rugby Club grounds at the Cran, with registration from 11am and the cycle commencing at 12 noon.
