An IRFU Stage 1 Coaching Course will take place at Lisburn RFC on 24th and 31st January 2016...
This two-day course is specifically designed for coaches of mini rugby (players aged 6 to 12 years), where participants are being introduced to rugby for the first time and participating in games of reduced numbers (8, 10 and 12-a-side). The focus is on safety and enjoyment, with the coach acting as a 'guide' in a player-centred process. Developing players' all-round skills and in game-understanding with an emphasis on Physical Literacy appropriate to the stages of development of each individual player are the key technical, tactical and physical module objectives at the stage.
The course will develop the coach as a 'Guide'...
ENTRY CRITERIA: There is no entry requirement; however, priority (where applicable) will be given to participants who were actively involved in coaching Mini Rugby.
ACCREDITATION: Full course attendance (all modules); practical demonstration (within course) of safety awareness in skills requiring contact and sign-off; and commitment to the IRFU Child Welfare Policy document.
Participants must be 16 years of age or above. Please note: Coaches aged 16-18 years old are restricted to performing in an Assistant Coach role, under the direct supervision and guidance of an Accredited Mini Rugby coach aged 18 years or older.
