In very wet conditions Munster had most of the territorial advantage with the elements in the first half and turned round at halftime 3-0 up thanks to a penalty from outhalf Stuart Lee.
However, in the second period Ulster's set peace dominance came to the fore again and Ballyclare's Gary Clotworthy kicked three penalties to put the visitors 3-9 up and very much in the driving seat.
For long periods Ulster were camped in the Munster 22 with numerous five yard scrums as the match entered the final phase but surprisingly after many collapsed and reset scrums the referee failed to penalise the hosts. As a result of the frustration Ulster attempted to move the ball wide but Munster fullback Eoin Duffy intercepted a pass and ran 75 metres to score under the posts to give an easy conversion and a sole destroying defeat to Ulster with 5 minutes remaining.
Ulster now play Leinster at Dromore RFC this Saturday in a winner-takes-all encounter which kicks off at 2.30pm. All support welcome.
