The evening was a huge success, giving supporters the chance to reconnect with some of the players who helped deliver one of the province’s most iconic achievements. Brought to you by Bank of Ireland, the returning squad members attended the 9 Counties Pre-Match Season Ticket Holder event, where fans had the opportunity to meet the players, hear stories from that memorable campaign, and take photographs with the Celtic League trophy. The evening demonstrated that twenty years on, the legacy of that title-winning side remains as strong as ever.
Supporters of all ages embraced the occasion, with the atmosphere building throughout the evening as memories of Ulster’s famous title-winning season were shared once again.
At half-time, the celebrations continued as the players were welcomed onto the pitch for a special commemorative appearance in front of the crowd. The reception from supporters showed just how much that team still means to Ulster Rugby fans twenty years on.
The 2005/06 Celtic League-winning side remains one of the most respected teams in provincial history. Their dramatic victory over Ospreys in Swansea secured Ulster’s first Celtic League title and created memories that continue to resonate with supporters to this day.
That legendary squad featured some of the biggest names ever to wear the Ulster jersey, including Justin Harrison, Isaac Boss, Tommy Bowe, David Humphreys, Andrew Trimble, Paddy Wallace, Stephen Ferris and Rory Best among many more. Players who would go on to become icons of both Ulster and Irish rugby and inspire the next generation of players.
A huge thank you goes to all of the former players who joined us for the occasion, as well as to our supporters who helped make the event so special. Celebrating the club’s history alongside the fans who continue to support Ulster Rugby every week made for a truly memorable evening.
With the excitement building ahead of Friday night’s Challenge Cup Final against Montpellier in Bilbao, supporters will hope the spirit of 2006 can once again inspire another memorable chapter in Ulster Rugby history.
