First-up, we asked Tom to introduce himself and give us an insight into the work of a Head of Athletic Performance coach in a professional sporting set-up.

With three victories in the bag, the Emerging Ireland players, who spent a number of weeks in Bloemfontein in South Africa, met-up with Ulster's travelling contingent in Johannesburg ahead of last weekend's victory over the Emirates Lions at Ellis Park. We asked Tom whether this was a boost for the group.

As the squad will face very different weather to what they are used to back home, we asked Tom if the heat and altitude in Johannesburg, and then Durban's temperatures and humidity, will pose specific challenges for our players in the Southern hemisphere.

Now into season two of the United Rugby Championship, which last year saw two South African teams feature in the Final, we spoke to Tom about what he thought the Lions, Bulls, Sharks and Stormers have brought to the league.
