On 30th January 1999, Ulster Rugby defeated Colomiers 21-6 in front of a 49,000-strong crowd at the old Lansdowne Road stadium to be crowned champions of Europe.
As a proud supporter of Ulster Rugby for over 27 years, Bank of Ireland has continued to invest in the professional and domestic game across Ulster ever since.
To recognise the milestone, Managing Director NI and U.K. Strategic Partnerships at Bank of Ireland, George Higginson, joined Ulster Rugby’s Head of Operations and Recruitment, Bryn Cunningham, who featured in the winning ’99 line-up as a player, and Ulster Rugby’s Head of Commercial, Keith Shorten, at the club’s home ground.
Speaking about the anniversary, George Higginson said:
“We have been proud supporters of Ulster Rugby for more than two decades and it’s very encouraging to see the continued development of the game at all levels across the province. Today we mark the achievements of the 1999 team, but we also recognise the countless great games and players who have worn the Ulster jersey with distinction and have kept supporters engaged and entertained ever since.”
Keith Shorten, added:
“We are delighted to be able to recognise such a significant milestone for our club with a sponsor who was there on the day we lifted the trophy back in 1999, and continues to stand alongside us to the present day.
“Bank of Ireland’s ongoing investment in our province, both in the professional and domestic game, means that we can look forward to more memorable days together, both on and off the pitch.”
