Ulster Rugby And Centra Team Up For A Record Summer Of Rugby

Ulster Rugby has renewed its sponsorship deal with local convenience store group Centra, as it prepares to reach 10,000 participants of its Summer Camps.

Centra will continue its support of the popular Summer Camps for a further year, which has welcomed 9,300 children since its sponsorship deal started in 2008 and continues to grow each year.

The week-long camps take place at rugby clubs throughout Ulster between July – August for kids aged 6-12 years, where they learn vital skills from fully qualified development coaches and receive a special training session from Ulster Rugby players.

Phillip Polack, Business Development Manager with Ulster Rugby said: “The figures for the Summer Camps are fantastic, the numbers have been growing year on year since 2008, with a record 1,892 children taking part in 2014 and it’s incredible that this year we will be hitting 10,000 participants.

“We are delighted with the support Centra has given us over the years in helping us develop the rugby skills of young people throughout the Province and we feel it is important they continue on this milestone year.

“The 2015 camps are being finalised with dates and venues set to be announced soon and we look forward to welcoming another record number of boys and girls to our camps across the country,” he added.

Nikki McDowell, Centra Brand Manager said, “Reaching 10,000 participants in our eighth year partnering Ulster Rugby is testament to how fantastic these summer camps are and continue to be amongst the young people of Ulster.

“With more than 80 stores at the heart of their communities across Northern Ireland, many of Centra’s retailers are keen to lend their support by attending their local camps and giving out prizes and we are delighted to see so many children come along each week and work on their sporting skills in such a fun and friendly environment,” she added.

Centra continues its support of Ulster Rugby sponsoring ‘Half Time Rugby’ where mini rugby teams get a chance to play at Kingspan Stadium during half-time at Ulster home games.

Centra is part of Musgrave Retail Partners NI (MRPNI) which supports over 250 independent retail stores in Northern Ireland, including SuperValu and Mace, with a combined turnover in excess of £600 million. MRPNI is part of the Musgrave Group, the leading partner to more than 3,500 entrepreneurial retailers and food service professionals in the UK, Ireland and Spain.
